Installing motorized blinds over your windows can be very convenient. With just the push of a button, and the blinds open or close — it's so much easier than messing with the frustrating cords of yester-year! However, motorized blinds have more to offer than you realize. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of their convenient functions.

1. Integrate them with your smart home system.

There are a couple of different smart home systems on the market right now. Chances are, your motorized blinds are compatible with one or more of these systems. Take the time to integrate the blinds with your smart home system when you first install them so you're not tempted to put off doing so. This way, you don't even have to push a button to operate the blinds. You can just say "hey system, close the blinds" and they will close for you. This is extremely helpful when you come in the door with an arm load of stuff, or when you're rushing through the house and don't have time to cross the room to shut the blinds manually.

2. Put them on a schedule.

One of the best things about motorized blinds is that once you integrate them with your smart home system, you can also put them on a schedule. For instance, you can program them to open at 10:00 when the sun is starting to stream in, and close again at 2:00 pm, when the sun starts to sink lower. This way, the sun is heating your home in the middle of the day, but you're not letting heat escape when the sun sinks. You can then do the opposite in the summer. With this happening automatically, you can help save money on your energy bills, and without having to put in a lot of effort.

3. Use your smartphone app.

Most motorized blinds are controllable via your smartphone once you download an app. Make sure you actually utilize this feature! Pay attention to the weather, and if it is getting dreary or the temperature drops, close the blinds remotely. You may want to get in the habit of checking the weather and adjusting the blinds accordingly every day at a certain time, such as after lunch.

With the tips above, you can make the most of your motorized blinds and keep your home as efficient as possible.
